The Midwest Umpires Association was founded in
1989 by a select group of college umpires with the intention of
creating an organization devoted to training and developing
umpires to reach the collegiate level. We currently hold
contracts for many levels of baseball in the
Midwest. We have college level baseball in Missouri, Illinois,
Arkansas and Kansas. Among these schools are individual NCAA
Div II and
III
Colleges, Junior Colleges, and 2 complete NAIA Conferences. We
also work with several High Schools in the St Louis metro area on their Spring Boy’s baseball
and Fall Girls Softball.
During the summer, we assign for several
independent leagues as well as 3 American Legion Districts (MO
and
ILL) and various other tournaments. This fits directly into our
goals as a teaching organization. When you work hard, the
efforts can definitely pay off with bigger and better
opportunities. As a result of their improvements and excellent
skills, several MUA members who have started doing simple summer
ball have gone on to work higher levels of baseball. We
currently have members working in several Division I and
Division II NCAA Conferences with a few having earned the
opportunity to work post-season and world series in the NCAA ,
NAIA, and American Legion.
The Midwest Umpires Association strives to be
more than just an assigning body. We hold various clinics
throughout the region. We pride ourselves in being a "teaching"
organization, helping to make umpiring better throughout the
area by inviting local youth organizations to attend these
clinics. Conducting these various clinics gives MUA the
opportunity to recruit additional members. Feel free to check
our calendar for the next clinic in your area and come check us
out!
In addition to the clinics, we hold up to 8
meetings throughout the calendar year. These meetings give us
another opportunity to get together and "teach" the art of
umpiring. From round table discussions about handling
situations to actual chalk-talk classes on mechanics, we try to
further develop the abilities of our membership.
Whether you are a new or veteran umpire,
interested in college, high school or summer baseball/softball,
MUA is the place to be. If you have the ability and the desire,
we have the network for you. Complete the on-line registration
form today. Step up to the plate, today!! |
